PCOS diet for weight loss with Indian food

With PCOS, losing even 5 to 10% of your body weight can improve periods, energy and insulin levels for many women. There is no special PCOS food you must buy. What helps is steady, balanced Indian meals with protein and fibre, less added sugar, and regular movement. Here is how to do it with the food you already cook.
What actually helps with PCOS weight loss?
- A modest calorie deficit. Weight loss of 5 to 10% is linked with better cycles and insulin sensitivity in many women with PCOS.
- Protein at every meal. Dal, curd, paneer, tofu, sprouts, eggs, chicken or fish keep blood sugar steadier and hunger lower.
- Fibre: sabzi, salad, dal, whole grains and fruit. Aim for a full katori of vegetables at lunch and dinner.
- Less added sugar: sweet chai, juices, mithai and biscuits raise blood sugar quickly. Cutting these is often the single biggest change.
- Strength exercise and walking. Muscle uses blood sugar; short home strength workouts and walking after meals both help.
- Sleep and stress. Poor sleep makes cravings and insulin levels worse.

Questions people ask
Can I lose weight with PCOS?
Yes. It can feel slower because of insulin resistance, but a steady calorie deficit, enough protein and regular strength exercise work for women with PCOS too. Expect gradual progress and measure your waist as well as your weight.
Should I stop eating rice and roti with PCOS?
Not necessarily. Many women do well with measured portions of roti or rice paired with dal, curd or paneer and a lot of sabzi, which slows how fast the meal raises blood sugar.
Is milk bad for PCOS?
There is no strong evidence that you must avoid dairy. Curd, Greek yogurt and paneer are useful protein sources. If you notice that a food does not suit you, discuss it with your doctor or a dietitian.
Do I need supplements for PCOS?
Only take supplements your doctor recommends. Some women are prescribed inositol, vitamin D or metformin; these are medical decisions, not diet tips.
